The St. Johns community in Florida is mourning the death of Justin Milliken, co-owner of the Grumpy’s Restaurant location at The Fountains at St. Johns, whose sudden passing has left his family, colleagues and customers grieving.

According to local reports, deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the restaurant on County Road 210 on Wednesday morning, September 9, 2026, where Milliken was found deceased. Authorities indicated that there was no apparent indication of foul play, while reports identified the death as an apparent suicide. Grumpy’s Restaurant has declined to discuss further details, citing respect for Milliken’s family and the ongoing handling of the circumstances by authorities.

Milliken and his wife, Leah, became franchise owners of Grumpy’s in 2020 and opened the St. Johns location in 2021. The restaurant quickly became part of the local community, offering breakfast, lunch and brunch while providing employment and a familiar gathering place for area residents.

The restaurant expressed deep sadness over Milliken’s death and extended its thoughts to his family, Leah, the St. Johns team and everyone affected by the loss. The location was temporarily closed following his death before plans were made to resume normal operations.

Milliken was also a father and had previously served as a U.S. Army officer before building a career in medical-device sales and management, according to information reported from his professional profile.

As the St. Johns community remembers Justin Milliken, condolences are extended to his wife, children, family, friends, employees and all who knew him. His passing has left a lasting void among those who shared his personal and professional life.
