Bradley Montero Obituary, Chico, California, Death: 60-Year-Old Man Dies After Head-On Highway 99 Crash

CHICO, Calif. — Bradley Montero, 60, of Chico, California, died early Monday morning, August 31, 2026, after a serious head-on collision on State Route 99 north of Chico. His death has left family, friends and members of the community mourning a sudden loss.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:18 a.m. near Broyles Road, between the Nord and Vina areas. Montero was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima when the vehicle crossed the center median and entered the opposing lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2017 Kenworth truck tractor.

Emergency crews found Montero trapped inside the Nissan following the collision. Firefighters worked to extricate him from the wreckage before he was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at approximately 4:57 a.m.

The driver of the Kenworth was identified as 54-year-old Jose L. Estrada Loza of Anderson. He was not seriously injured in the crash. Authorities have not determined why Montero’s vehicle crossed the center median, and the precise circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.

Investigators have also indicated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash, although the investigation remains active as CHP works to establish the full sequence of events.

Beyond the details of the collision, Montero’s death represents the loss of a member of the Chico community whose life was meaningful to those who knew him. His sudden passing has left loved ones facing the difficult reality of grieving someone whose life ended unexpectedly.
