DENVER, Colo. — Family, friends and members of the Colorado community are mourning the tragic loss of Joshua Robert Douglass, 33, of Denver, who died after being struck by a pickup truck during a devastating crash in Old Town Fort Collins on Saturday, August 29, 2026. His unexpected death has left loved ones grieving as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office, Douglass was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital after the collision but later succumbed to his injuries. Following a forensic examination, the coroner ruled his death an accident, with the cause of death determined to be multiple blunt force injuries.

Fort Collins Police said the crash occurred shortly before noon near West Mountain Avenue and College Avenue, as crowds remained in the Old Town area following the annual Tour de Fat festivities. Investigators believe a pickup truck was backing out of a parking space when it struck another vehicle before accelerating onto the sidewalk, where it hit several pedestrians and ultimately crashed into a tree. Joshua Douglass was the only fatal victim, while five others, including the driver, sustained injuries. Police have stated that there is no indication the pedestrians were intentionally targeted.

In the days following the tragedy, a memorial of flowers, handwritten notes and other tributes grew near the crash site as family members, friends and members of the community gathered to honor Douglass’ memory. Loved ones described him as a deeply cherished son, relative and friend whose loss has left an immeasurable void in their lives.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Authorities are examining all available evidence, including whether a medical emergency or impairment may have contributed to the crash, and have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.

As family and friends continue to mourn, Joshua Robert Douglass is being remembered for the life he lived and the relationships he built with those around him. His passing has deeply affected both the Denver and Fort Collins communities, where many have expressed sympathy and support for his loved ones during this difficult time.

Condolences are extended to the Douglass family and to everyone mourning his loss as they remember a life taken far too soon.
