The Maringouin community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lauren Carter, 22, and her 6-year-old son, Layton Carter, who died following a devastating apartment fire at the Ridgewood Apartments in Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The tragic incident occurred during the early morning hours of August 31, 2026, prompting a large emergency response as firefighters battled the blaze and attempted to rescue those inside.

According to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Maringouin Fire Department, emergency crews were dispatched to the apartment complex on Ridgewood Drive at approximately 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire.
