Hailie Hune Obituary, Huntsville, Alabama, Death: 21-Year-Old Dies in Fatal I-565 Crash During Trooper Pursuit

The Huntsville community is mourning the death of Hailie D. Hune, 21, who was killed in a fatal crash involving an Alabama state trooper on Interstate 565 near Research Park. Hune, who was from Prospect, Tennessee, died after her vehicle crashed during an encounter with an on-duty trooper.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on August 8, 2026. Hune was driving a 2017 Dodge Charger when she allegedly attempted to elude the trooper, who was operating a marked patrol vehicle. Her vehicle ultimately left the roadway, overturned and struck a concrete barrier near mile marker 14. The trooper’s patrol vehicle then collided with Hune’s vehicle.

Hune was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper involved in the crash was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. More recent reporting said records indicate Hune reached speeds of up to 134 mph before taking an exit ramp toward I-565, where her vehicle went airborne, crossed multiple lanes and crashed.

Beyond the circumstances of the crash, Hune is being remembered by her family as a young woman with a kind spirit. Her father, Glen Hune, described her as someone whose smile could brighten a room and said she was known for her caring nature. A family fundraiser also identified her work as a postal worker in Moulton, Alabama, and noted her love of animals and cars.

Her sudden death has left family and friends facing a painful loss, with loved ones now focused on honoring her memory and arranging her final farewell. The family has sought assistance with funeral expenses and plans to establish a memorial tribute reflecting Hailie’s generosity and compassion.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and collision. As the investigation develops, Hailie Hune’s family and friends continue to mourn a young life lost far too soon.
